There was a need of unity. There waws a need of unity because everyone wanted to be independent. But no one really understood that being independent can lead to difficulty or troubleness. So they finally agreed to be united and agree on things as a team.

One of the weaknesses was the resulting government because efforts to make it stronger failed. A convention called in May 1787 to rewrite the articles of confederation decided to draft an entirely new constitution.

When they wrote the Articles of Confederation there was no executive branch. Judicial branch were very limited. The government was weak. When they tried to make it stronger they failed.

Government had no right to lay or collect taxes because the government was already short of money

Congress had limited power and could pass laws but couldn’t get the states to comply with it. Because the states would be ignoring Congress and Congress felt weak.

The Articles of Confederation were made to give colonies their own sense of government, Congress had limited power, there was no executive or judicial branch. This caused the colonies to not be united as one.
